Purpose of the Department
The department aims to educate scientists with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, capable of contributing to the design, implementation, and evaluation of social protection, social inclusion, and welfare policies. At the same time, it promotes social awareness, critical thinking, and democratic participation, highlighting the essential role of social policy in shaping fair and sustainable societies.
Our Goal
The goal of the department is to cultivate a modern, interdisciplinary, and critical way of thinking about social issues, as well as to develop the skills that will enable students to actively contribute to the design and implementation of social policies.
Research
Research at the Department of Social Policy of the Democritus University of Thrace focuses on the study of social inequalities, social cohesion, and welfare policies at the local, national, and international levels. Particular emphasis is placed on the analysis of social phenomena such as social exclusion, migration flows, and access to health and education services, with the aim of providing evidence and designing effective social interventions.
