Margarita Gasparinatou is an Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy at the Department of Social Policy of the Democritus University of Thrace. She is a lecturer in the Postgraduate Program “Criminological and Penal Approaches to Corruption, Economic & Organized Crime” at the Hellenic Open University and a teaching member of the international inter-university network “Criminal Justice and Critical Criminology.” She holds a PhD from the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and is a founding member and Secretary of the Board of the Hellenic Society for the Study of Crime and Social Control (EEMEKE). She also serves on the editorial board of the journal Antigone: The Question.
Her research has been published in scientific journals and collective volumes. Her academic interests focus on criminology, criminal justice policy, juvenile delinquency, corruption, economic and organized crime. She is the author of the books: Juvenile Delinquency and Criminal Justice Policy (Nomiki Vivliothiki, 2020), Dangerousness: The Trajectory of a “Dangerous” Construction (Topos Publications, 2020), and Crimes of the Powerful: Theory and Reality (co-edited with Ir. Stamouli, Topos Publications, 2024).
She has participated in several scientific projects and served as Principal Investigator (PI) in two research projects:
a) the European project POSEIDON – POrtS unitED Against corruption, funded by the European Commission (2023–2025) (ELKE code 83037), and
b) the study Youth Subcultures, Violence, Sexism and Delinquency: The Case of Trap Music, which, following evaluation, was approved for funding by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) under the 3rd Call for Research Projects to Support Faculty Members and Researchers.
