At the completion of the course students should be able to:
• Know the origins of Sociology and the socio-historic conditions that led to it.
• Explain and apply the sociological perspective.
• Understand the sociological perspective on issues considered in the course.
• Understand major sociologists and their major theories.
• Describe basic sociological theories and schools of thought.
• Critically analyse contemporary structures such as those of society, family, capitalism etc. as well as related concepts.
• Analyse the notion, the forms and the importance of socialization.
• Evaluate the importance of social interactions in shaping and ordering space and time in everyday life.
• Critically analyse the structure and the functioning of the Greek family.
• To understand the importance of education in influencing the production, reproduction and stratification of society.
• Understand theoretical and empirical aspects of stratification and class.
• Explain and evaluate the intertwining between Greek society and Greek state.
• Understand the importance of sociological thinking through the use of related methodological tools.
